Blog Exercise 15– commenting on other blogs

Today I commented on Suzy Small's blog: Susanne's Library Studies Blog.

I commented on the latest blog post about Eli Pariser's TED talk:

Investigative Exercise 2: Blogs

State Library of NSW - eRecords Blog

For this exercise I looked at the eRecords Blog of the State Library of NSW - and I wish I had discovered it sooner!

The blog covers the progress of the eRecords digitisation project and highlights interesting discoveries made along the way in the library's collections. The most recent blog post dates from April 2014 and announces the completion of the eRecords project, as well as explaining that the blog will no longer be monitored for comments. However, earlier posts encouraged comments and enabled interaction with the public. 

The blog allowed a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the library, both in the sense of revealing hidden gems from the collection and in the sense of educating the public about the library's role and the amount of work that goes into digitisation. Along the way, various blog posts help to teach people how to search the eRecords collections, as well as pointing people toward other social media apps used by the library (eg. Pinterest). Some of the blog posts would also be extremely useful for librarians aiming to learn more about digital engagement in the library sector.
